Billy McCreary wins FPHL Coach of the Year
Hat Tricks head coach Billy McCreary has been awarded FPHL Coach of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
McCreary, in his first year as head coach of a professional team, led the Danbury Hat Tricks to an Eastern Division title, posting a 29-12-2-3 record. He oversaw an 11-game winning streak stretching from November 22nd to December 21st, the longest win streak in Danbury pro hockey history. After the streak snapped, his team rattled off six more victories in a row to take 17 of 18 total contests, catapulting the Hat Tricks into first place in the East.
McCreary's Hat Tricks led the league with eight promotions to the SPHL, plus a ninth call-up to the ECHL. Despite near-constant lineup juggling to accommodate turnover and injuries, McCreary kept the Hat Tricks on a winning path, leading them to 94 points.
Head coach Billy McCreary released the following statement in response to this award:
"There is no other award that speaks to the strength of a team like the Coach of the Year award. I’m humbled to be able to accept this award on behalf of our entire organization.
The ownership group here in Danbury is first class. They are all leaders in their communities and the opportunity they have provided is a blessing to us all.
The staff we have assembled is a dream team. From our coaches, to our training staff, equipment managers, and our award-winning broadcast team, you have all provided a wealth of leadership and have been instrumental in building our culture.
To the players, there is only one thing to say: I love each and every one of you. The leadership you all gave, the commitment you made, the sacrifices you all made, and the bonds you created are the only reason WE are able to accept this award. You made each and every day a joy to come to the rink. You inspire your community, you protect your community, you work together, and you are leaders on and off the ice.
To the city of Danbury and our fans: you are the best. Your unwavering support throughout many different franchises is admirable. We love playing in front of you and we love defending your honor!
To my family, thank you for everything. None of this would be possible without each and every one of you. Your love and guidance didn’t go unnoticed each and every game.
Thank you all and we look forward to coming back even stronger next year.
