Gonzalez called up to SPHL, joins Rail Yard Dawgs

by Casey Bryant

The Hat Tricks are bidding a fond farewell to top-pair defenseman Kyle Gonzalez, as he recently signed a contract to play with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the SPHL.

Gonzalez, in his first season as a pro after graduating from Northland College, posted six points in his first 10 games with the Danbury Hat Tricks. His speed and puck-moving ability made him a valuable asset, chewing up key defensive minutes against opposing first lines. His elite two-way play caught the eye of the SPHL, earning him a promotion.

This is the second Hat Tricks player to receive a call-up to the SPHL this season, as Sam Williams was promoted to the Pensacola Ice Flyers after producing four points in his first six games in Danbury.

Gonzalez will see his first bit of SPHL action Thanksgiving night, as the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs pay a visit to the Evansville Thunderbolts.
