Hat Tricks Re-Sign Defenseman Xavier Abdella

by Doug Lattuca

DANBURY — The Danbury Hat Tricks have re-signed defenseman Xavier Abdella to a contract for the 2023-24 season.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 181 pound steady d-man played in 40 games with the Hat Tricks last season contributing five assists on the offensive end.

Abdella will forever be linked to the Hat Tricks’ Championship season as he had the primary assist on forward Michael Marchesan’s title clinching goal in overtime of game five.

“It’s great to have X back for another season,” General Manager and Head Coach Billy McCreary said. “He is a dependable defenseman who has the ability to make plays all over the ice. We will be looking for him to take a big step this year and continue his leadership on and off the ice.

Prior to his professional hockey career, Abdella played five seasons at the NCAA Division III level, two with Stevenson (2016-17, 2017-18) and three at Wilkes University (2018-19 – 2021-22).

The Hat Tricks open their season against the Watertown Wolves in a home-and-home series starting on the road, Oct. 13 before returning to the Danbury Ice Arena the next night, Oct. 14, for the Home Opener and banner raising.
