HAT TRICKS RESIGN GOALTENDER KYLE PENTON

DANBURY – The Danbury Hat Tricks announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Kyle Penton on a PTO contract for the 2026-27 season.

Penton, 26, served as the team’s starting goaltender for the second half of the 2025-26 season. Playing his first season of professional hockey, the Massachusetts native went on to win the Hat Tricks’ Most Valuable Player award. He was also recognized as the team’s Rookie of the Year.

After only five starts in 2025, the rookie netminder saw significant time in net from January onwards. Posting a .918 save percentage and 3.00 GAA, he finished with a 15-15-1 record. His debut campaign featured signature moments including a 46-save shootout win vs Binghamton on February 28th along with a 49-save win vs Indiana on February 21st. On February 14th, he posted his first career pro shutout in a 7-0 win over the Sentinels.

Before Danbury, the Waltham, MA native played four seasons at the University of Southern Maine, competing at the Division 3 level in the Little East Conference.

On the signing, General Manager A.J. Galante stated, “Kyle Penton showed up at free agent camp, earned a spot at main camp, and eventually took the #1 goalie position. That is not a normal rookie season for most guys. Aside from his skill, what his determination showed is that he is a guy you want between the pipes and in the trenches. He scratched and clawed for his opportunity and never looked back. Building a roster starts from the back end on up, and to have Kyle back in the fold truly gives us confidence heading into opening night.

Head Coach John Bierchen also offered his thoughts on Penton’s return – “Having our team MVP back is huge. We always believed Kyle was our future starting goalie, even at the beginning of last season when he wasn’t getting consistent starts. He grew into exactly what we knew he would, and having him as our #1 from day one and knowing we can lean on him this year will be a huge boost for the team and organization.”
