Hat Tricks Sign Defenseman and Danbury Hockey Legend Steve Brown
DANBURY — The Danbury Hat Tricks sign defenseman and Danbury hockey legend Steve Brown to a contract for the 2023-24 season.
Brown, 34-years-old, is Danbury hockey’s all-time leader in games played and was inducted into the Danbury Hockey Ring of Honor last year. The Spring Lake, N.C. native has suited up in 257 contests (228 regular and 29 postseason) during his time in the Hat City with three separate organizations (Whalers, Titans, Hat Tricks).
Brown did not lace up his skates for the Hat Tricks in 2022-23 but was on Championship winning staff as an assistant coach.
“It’s great to add Steve back into our lineup,” said General Manager and Head Coach Billy McCreary. “His leadership is valued in many ways, as evident by his assistant coaching role last season. Having his presence on the ice this season will be a difference maker. Not a lot of players are willing to go up against a player like Steve Brown.”
Brown won FPHL Defenseman of the Year and was a First Team All-Star in his second season with the Hat Tricks in 2021-22 after opting out the season prior to be with his family during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 6-foot-2-inch d-man was selected by the Danbury Whalers in the 2012-13 dispersal draft from Cape Cod and went on to win the FHL Championship that same season. He skated in 97 contests with the Whalers over three seasons before the organization ended operations in 2015. Brown returned to Danbury for the next two campaigns when the Titans were formed.
