Hat Tricks Bring Back Berry, Sign Former KHL Forward Vasilyev to Four-Game PTO
DANBURY — The Danbury Hat Tricks have signed returning forward Billy Berry to a standard contract and former KHLer Alexander Vasilyev to a four-game PTO.
Berry, a Redding, Connecticut native, played for the Hat Tricks last season, appearing in 12 games and contributing 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists). He also added a goal and an assist in three playoff games. Prior to his time in Danbury, the 6-foot-2-inch forward completed his fifth season at Wilkes University (NCAA III). From 2019-2024, he played 115 games and recorded 64 points (24 goals, 40 assists), including a career-high 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) during his senior year.
The 25-year-old joined Danbury on March 1, 2024, and went on an offensive tear, posting 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists) in his first 14 games. He also scored the Hat Tricks' last goal of the 2024-25 season in a 4-1 playoff loss to the Motor City Rockers.
Vasilyev, a 35-year-old forward, started his professional career back in 2005-06 with Dynamo Moskva-2 (Russia3) and most notably appeared in 223 games across eight seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The Elektrostal, Russia native totaled 91 points (40 goals, 51 assists) while playing for Vityaz Chekhov, Atlant Mytishchi, Spartak Moskva, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod, and Vityaz Podolsk. Vasilyev’s best seasons came with Spartak Moskva, where he registered a combined 40 points over two years, including a career-high 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) in the 2015-16 season.
A seasoned veteran of professional hockey, Vasilyev has built an impressive résumé of accolades. He was the top scorer at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2006-07 and earned the title of KHL’s Most Points by a Junior during the 2008-09 season, which also saw him take home two Rookie of the Month honors. His trophy case includes a Continental Cup Championship and a Ukraine Championship from the 2012-13 season, and he more recently earned a Romania Silver Medal in 2022-23. Last season, he dominated the BeNeLiga, leading the league in goals (33), assists (52), and points (85).
