Hat Tricks Sign Four Rookies

DANBURY, CT -- The Danbury Hat Tricks of the Federal Prospects Hockey League announced the signing of defenseman Cordell Boyko and forwards Mahingan Decontie, Tristan Mock and Andrew Whalen.

Boyko (5-foot-11, 185 pounds), a left hand shot, played in Sweden’s Division 3 last season. The 24-year-old had 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 21 games. In 2091-20, the Alberta native played 19 games for Concordia University of Edmonton and had three assists.

Decontie (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) had nine points (five goals, four assists) and 15 penalty minutes in 19 games at King’s College last season. The 22-year-old is a native of Gatineau, Quebec. He played 60 games in the Central Canada Hockey League in 2019-20 and had 15 points (four goals, 11 assists).

Mock (5-foot-11, 174 pounds) is a native of Johnstown, PA. The 22-year-old had four points (two goals, two assists) and 20 penalty minutes in nine games at Westfield State University last season and four points (three goals, one assist) and 16 penalty minutes in nine games at Becker College in 2020-21. With Team Maryland in the Eastern Hockey League in 2019-20, Mock had 59 points (26 goals, 33 assists) in 40 games.

Whelan (6-foot, 201 pounds) made his FPHL debut last season, playing two games with the Delaware Thunder. The 31-year-old has played most of his career in Canada senior leagues and spent the 2015-16 season playing in Sweden.
