Hat Tricks Sweep Rockers in OT

by Herm Sorcher

Fraser, MI- Friday night saw the Hat Tricks claim a victory in overtime over the Motor City Rockers in the Big Boy Arena. The next night saw the same final outcome, but a different pathway to that result.

After a scoreless first period, Danbury broke the ice in the second. Michael Marchesan scored his first goal as a Hat Trick in his second game playing in Danbury orange at the 2:09 mark of the frame. Motor City answered about ten minutes later with an Ian White goal. The game went into the second intermission even at one apiece.

The third period saw the most action and most goals. Motor City controlled the shot counter 19-6 in the final stanza, and got two goals through Hat Tricks goalie Brian Wilson, who ultimately stopped 41 of 44 shots. Danbury got the frame's first goal with Brendan Sheehan scoring at the 9:08 mark. Motor City scored the next two goals in quick succession. Scott Coash scored at the 10:25 mark and Declan Conway potted the go-ahead goal four seconds later to send the Hat Tricks to their first deficit in regulation time this season. Danbury fought back to tie the game in the late minutes. John MacDonald fired a puck off a Rocker's skate and it redirected into the net to tie the game with 1:58 left to go in regulation.

For the second game in a row, and third time this season, Danbury needed an extra session to get the win, and Dmitry Kuznetsov provided the final heroics, scoring the OT winner 1:41 into the overtime frame for a 4-3 Hat Tricks winner.

Danbury improves to 9-0-1 with the win and remains the only FPHL team without a regulation loss.

The Hat Tricks travel to Binghamton for a Wednesday matchup next. Puck drop is slated for 6PM ET against the Binghamton Black Bears.
