Game Recap: Hat Tricks Win Streak Halted at Two in Loss to Binghamton Friday

by Brian Germinaro & Doug Lattuca

BINGHAMTON, NY — The Hat Tricks had their two-game winning streak snapped in a 4-2 loss to Binghamton Friday night. The Hat Tricks have now dropped six straight to Binghamton in seven matchups this season accumulating just three of a possible 21 points.

Binghamton can credit a big part of their win to the play of defenseman Dakota Bohn. Bohn score two goals, including one on the power play. Bohn was awarded first star honors.

After coincidental minors were handed out to each team midway through the first period, Bohn buried his first goal of the night at 9:02.

With time winding down in the second period, forward Thomas Wray, who just got done severing a two-minute bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, snapped home his fifth goal of the season to extend the Binghamton lead to 2-0 with just seconds remaining in the middle frame.

In the third period, frustration finally boiled over as a scrum broke out between the two teams. This resulted in the ejection of four players. Forward Chase Harwell and defenseman Jarod Yau for the Hat Tricks and forwards Nikita Ivashkin and Tyson Kirkby for Binghamton. This looked to be the shot in the arm the Hat Tricks needed as minutes later forward Bohdan Zinchenko slid one under the pad of goalie Connor McAnanama to bring the Hat Tricks within one.

However, momentum was quickly ripped away from the Hat Tricks, when forward Donald Olivieri lifted a wrist shot over the shoulder of goaltender Liam Murray. This gave Binghamton a 3-1 lead. Binghamton added to its advantage with a Bohn power play score at 16:37. Hat Tricks forward Daniel McKitrick was able to score a goal late in the third period on the power play for the Hat Tricks, however, it was too late to stage a comeback.

The Hat Tricks look to salvage the two-game New York State road trip Saturday night in Elmira to take on the River Sharks. The puck drops at 6:07 pm.
