Roster news: McGuckin earns call-up to Fayetteville

by Casey Bryant

Tom McGuckin is the latest in a slew of Danbury players to be promoted to the SPHL, joining the Fayetteville Marksmen.

McGuckin has been red hot as backstop for the Hat Tricks, sporting a 12-4-1 record this season with a 3.19 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. He recently made Danbury Hat Tricks history by posting the first shutout in franchise history, turning aside 54 Carolina shots in a 3-0 victory.

McGuckin departs the Hat Tricks tied for the league lead in wins with Danville's Jesse Gordichuk.

"He's a great kid, and a terrific pro," head coach Billy McCreary said of the 26-year-old netminder. "He's earned everything he's gotten, he deserves this opportunity. We wish him the best of luck."

The promotion will provide an opportunity for more ice time for Dillon Kelley, who also played in the SPHL this season with the Peoria Rivermen, and Nick Niedert, who will return to Danbury after an ECHL appearance this Friday. This is the eighth promotion to the SPHL that the Hat Tricks have produced, a mark that leads the FPHL.

Danbury will be back in action this weekend on home ice as they host the Elmira Enforcers. Friday is New Haven Night, in which the Hat Tricks will wear Nighthawks-inspired throwback jerseys. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here or by calling 203-794-1704.
