Ruiz promoted to SPHL, joins Knoxville

by Casey Bryant

The Danbury Hat Tricks had their sixth player promoted to the SPHL today, as forward Jonny Ruiz received a call-up to the SPHL. Ruiz will join the Knoxville Ice Bears, who currently sit second in the league at 13-5-2.

Ruiz was a fan favorite in the Hat City, for good reason; he led the team with 28 points and 14 goals through 19 games, skating with Nicola Levesque and Phil Bronner on the top line for the majority of his tenure. He also was first on the team in powerplay goals with five, had a shorthanded goal and tied for the league lead in game-winning goals with four.

"We're happy for Jonny and know he will represent us well," commented Hat Tricks head coach Billy McCreary. "This is a resilient locker room. Whenever a new obstacle gets in our way, these guys find a way through it. We're looking forward to doing that here."

The Hat Tricks are in Mentor tonight, and will travel to Elmira tomorrow before returning home Saturday night to take on the Enforcers.
