Steve Mele named player/coach for Hat Tricks

by Casey Bryant

Danbury's Swiss Army Knife is returning for another season with a heightened role. Steve Mele has officially re-signed with the team as a player/assistant coach for the upcoming campaign.

"Myself and the rest of the team, we feel there's unfinished business from last season," Mele commented. "We're even more confident for this upcoming season with all the experienced players we have returning and signed."

Mele was utilized in a myriad of roles last season. His elite puck-handling skills and quick feet allowed him to be slotted in at the blueline as well as his natural position at center. Regardless of situation, Mele delivered, posting 16 points in 20 games played. He was among the more disciplined players on the team, only tagged with 13 PIMs on the season.

Mele is especially looking forward to his first coaching role alongside new head coach Anthony Bohn.

"Anthony is the perfect fit, and we're very excited to continue what we started and bring a championship back to Danbury."
