Video: Aaron Atwell talks NHL teammates, milestones and growing the game for BIPOC
After winning 2019-20 FPHL Defender of the Year, Aaron Atwell got together with longtime friend and former Calgary Flames defenseman to formulate an all-BIPOC youth hockey team (black, indigenous, people of color).
Atwell and Aliu, funded by Aliu's Time to Dream Foundation, made it to the finals of their tournament in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. Director of communications Casey Bryant sat down with Atwell over a video chat to discuss the coaching experience and how Atwell seeks to grow the game for BIPOC youth.
Aaron also shares stories of growing up surrounded by NHL talents (just look at the '03-'04 Toronto Marlboros roster!) and celebrating his 100th career FPHL point- only to see it omitted by the official scorer. Whoops!
